JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL:
Frank B. Kellogg Junior High School
1962-1963 1963-1964 1964-1965
A New School
Frank B. Kellogg Junior High School was named for a former Rochester lawyer who became secretary of state under President Coolidge and was a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. He had been the Rochester city attorney from 1881 to 1886.
We were the first seventh graders in the brand new Junior High School in northeast Rochester, located at 503 17th Street NE. The school opened on September 4th, 1962 with 968 students in seventh grade through ninth grade.
We had a dress code at Kellogg. Boys wore dress shirts, conservative sports shirts or sweaters, and standard trousers, slacks, or khakis worn with a belt, and clean and polished shoes. Girls wore blouses, sweaters, or jackets, and skirts, jumpers, or conservative dresses and "appropriate" shoes.
As I recall, in 8th grade, cool colors for boys were navy and maroon.
For a pandemic activity, I sent out an email to several alums after one sent an email asking if I could remember the names of some of our junior high school teachers. If you know of any other Kellogg teachers during our years or have corrections to our old memories, please fill out the Contact Us form (last page of this website).
